Beautiful Music in Difficult Times March 26

Mezzo Soprano Marietta Simpson is a beautiful singer and a marvelous dramatic storyteller — what a presence and what technical ease she conveys, even while singing devilishly difficult music. Today’s Beautiful Music highlights some of Marietta Simpson’s varied roles and impressive artistry  spanning her career, including a 1987 performance of  BUT WHO MAY ABIDE THE DAY OF HIS COMING from George Frideric Handel’s oratorio MESSIAH with Robert Shaw conducting the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. There’s also a 2015 performance of OH THOU THAT TELLEST GOOD TIDINGS from MESSIAH. There’s also a tender performance by Marietta Simpson with guitarist Tyron Cooper and violinist Zach DePue of A SONG FOR YOU. Tyron Cooper composed the song in honor of Holocaust Survivor Eva Kor for the premiere of the documentary EVA at Clowes Memorial Hall on April 5, 2018
