Beautiful Music in Difficult Times April 15

April 15 is the longstanding deadline for submitting tax returns, although this year the deadline has been extended to Monday, May 17. Today’s Beautiful Music is by a baroque era composer whose “day job” was as tax collector for the Royal Tobacco Company. Joseph Bodin de Boismortier kept up an ambitious dual career, working full time while actively composing until he felt confident enough in his ability to make a living solely as a musician. Here are performances of some of his music by young musicians across the US, including The Capitol Symphonic Youth Orchestra in Washington, DC, three flute students at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and Fresh Flutes at Grinnell College in Iowa. There’s also a performance by The Historical Flutes of the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps.
