Anna Bon was an 18th century Venetian woman — she was still a teenager when she started working as a musician in the court of Frederick the Great of Prussia. At about the same time she also published her first set of compositions – six flute sonatas that she dedicated to her musically inclined royal patron. Salzburg Cathedral

Heinrich Biber composed 15 Sonatas on the Mysteries of the Rosary. They are all-instrumental settings of Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious mysteries based on rosary prayers. They debuted at the Salzburg Cathedral, and the occasion was such a big deal that Biber’s musical score was adorned with engravings of the 15 Rosary Mysteries. Spend a few peaceful moments listening to one of Heinrich Biber’s five glorious mystery sonatas on Sunday Baroque this weekend.
