Beautiful Music NOW – June 2, 2022

The coronation of England’s Queen Elizabeth II took place on 2 June 1953 at Westminster Abbey. Elizabeth II acceded to the throne at the age of 25 upon the death of her father, George VI. Today’s Beautiful Music is ZADOK THE PRIEST, one of the coronation anthems performed at her coronation. It was composed by George Frideric Handel for the coronation of King George II in 1727. This performance is by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Chorus conducted by Sir Andrew Davis for the Queen’s Concerts, Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002.
