Gustav Mahler composed his orchestral song cycle DAS LIED VON DER ERDE (Song of the Earth) in 1908-09. The work features two singers, alternating movements, singing Hans Berthege’s translations of 7 Classical Chinese poems. Today’s Beautiful Music features a live 2016 performance of Mahler’s DAS LIED VON DER ERDE at the Round Top Festival. Vladimir Kulenovic conducts the Texas Festival Orchestra with mezzo soprano Sasha Cooke and tenor William Burden.
