You can also read more about the remarkable Ignatius Sancho’s life — born in 1729 on a slave ship and soon orphaned, he spent his first two years of life as an enslaved person in Grenada. He grew up to become an accomplished composer, writer, slave abolitionist and actor. Ignatius Sancho died in 1780 and was buried in the churchyard of St. Margaret’s in Westminster.
