A few days ago I had the privilege and pleasure to hear guitarist João Luiz Rezende Lopes play at SUNY Stony Brook, where he is on the faculty in the Department of Music. He performed with some of his students, demonstrating what such a gifted musician can do as a teacher and mentor. Today’s Beautiful Music features João Luiz Rezende Lopes performing music by Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as his performance of JACOBIANA, a virtuosic piece written and dedicated to him by Sérgio Assad.
