Beautiful Music in Difficult Times June 29

Every young flutist in the second half of the 20th century aspired to be Jean-Pierre Rampal, the famous French flutist who put the instrument on the map as a solo instrument in the concert hall. A few lucky musicians got to study with him — including Ransom Wilson — and I remember being a fan of BOTH of these outstanding musicians as I was growing up and studying flute. So today’s Beautiful Music offering is a Symphonie Concertante for 2 flutes by Francois Devienne. He lived in the second half of the 18th century, so he was technically post-baroque. This is such a lovely piece, and such a fine performance.

  1. Thanks for this, Suzanne. Even though I’m not a flutist, I have always loved flutes and Rampal.
