Beautiful Music in Difficult Times December 20

AN AMERICAN MOSAIC is a new recording of piano solo music by American composer Richard Danielpour. It was his response to the anxiety and insomnia he experienced because of the pandemic, and the comfort he found in listening to pianist Simone Dinnerstein’s recordings of Johann Sebastian Bach. Danielpour wrote his 15-movement cycle paying tribute to “the extraordinary heroism of so many valiant Americans who had struggled to combat this ‘invisible enemy.'” In addition to the contemporary cycle, he wrote transcriptions for three works by Bach, and he asked Simone Dinnerstein to premiere the entire project. Today’s Beautiful Music is Simone Dinnerstein’s live performance of Danielpour’s AN AMERICAN MOSAIC in NYC. I’ve chosen the cd for this year’s Sunday Baroque Holiday Gift List, too, so if you enjoy the live concert, click on the link below to check out the complete list to find out more. You can also listen to my conversation with composer Richard Danielpour about this composition and his life in music.
