Johann Sebastian Bach composed at least three gospel narratives of the Passion, although only two complete versions survive. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion was first performed on Good Friday at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig in 1727, and when it was revived about a century later, its performance helped rekindle an interest in Bach’s music. Sunday Baroque will feature some of Bach’s Passion music.
