The historical period defined as the “baroque era” spanned a whopping 150 years, from 1600 until 1750. Composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Antonio Vivaldi were born in the second half of that vast time period, and lived to about its end. Others thrived in the first half of the baroque era, and although they are all considered “baroque” composers, in many cases their lives didn’t even overlap. Trevor Pinnock

Since the 1970s, organist, harpsichordist, conductor, and music scholar Trevor Pinnock has been a leader in the revival of interest in baroque music. He’s also been a pioneer in the use of “period” instruments like the ones played during the baroque era. In celebration of his 75th birthday on December 16th, you’ll hear Trevor Pinnock leading the group he founded in the 70s, and some of his other recordings on Sunday Baroque this weekend.
