Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel is a Grammy-winning musician who is the music director of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Paris Opera. He was born in Barquisimeto, Venezuela in 1981, and his musician parents signed him up to play violin in the famous Venezuelan musical education program, El Sistema. Gustavo Dudamel continues to promote the groundbreaking educational institution, and today’s Beautiful Music features him conducting some talented Venezuelan high school students playing a movement from Dmitri Shostakovich’s Shostakovich’s Symphony #10, and Arturo Márquez’ Danzón #2.
