Nicholas McCarthy was born without a right hand. At age 14, he started piano lessons, and by 17 was accepted into the Junior department at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He then later enrolled in the keyboard department at the Royal College of Music, becoming its first left-hand-only graduate in 2012. The following year he made his American debut at The Kennedy Centre, Millenium stage in Washington D.C.
