Beautiful Music NOW – May 2, 2022

Angelica Hairston is a Harpist, Educator, and Activist with a passion for social change, and she seeks to create social impact through the power of the arts. Today’s Beautiful Music is a presentation from Angelica Hairston’s organization, CHALLENGE THE STATS.

This event features music Connor Chee, with dancer Michael Morris, Jr. and a live discussion between pianist Renata Yazzie and violist Breana McCullough. This event is presented as part of Challenge the Stats in Residence at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.

Connor Chee is a Navajo pianist and composer who combines his classical piano training with his Native American heritage. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, Chee’s solo piano music is inspired by traditional Navajo chants and songs.

Renata Yazzie is a graduate student in the music department at The University of New Mexico pursuing dual concentrations in musicology with a focus on ethnomusicology and piano performance,

Breana McCullough is a violist who performs both early and modern music. As a graduate student at UCLA in the department of ethnomusicology, her research specializations relate to Indigenous representation in early art music.
