Three outstanding women provide today’s Beautiful Music: violinist Solomiya Ivakhiv and pianist Tanya Bannister play the Fantasie #1 in g by Florence Price.
Dr. Ivakhiv is a Ukrainian-born musician who earned degrees from Stony Brook University, M.Lysenko State Academy of Music in Ukraine, and Curtis Institute of Music. She is Associate Professor of Violin and Viola, Coordinator of Strings at The University of Connecticut.
Tanya Bannister started her musical education in Hong Kong, where she was born, and continued in London, Italy, Germany and the USA. She holds degrees from the Royal Academy of Music in London, and New York’s Mannes School of Music.
And composer Florence Price was a Little Rock, Arkansas-born keyboard virtuosa, composer, and music teacher who was educated at the New England Conservatory of Music. Ms. Price lived from 1887-1953, and was a brilliantly talented and trailblazing musician. She composed her Fantasie #1 in July 1933.
