Two years ago, when I began this series of blog posts, sharing some of the Beautiful Music I found available online, the world was facing a difficult time as a result of the global pandemic. As a naturally optimistic person, I longed for the days when we could convene to celebrate outstanding musical performances without the cloud of “difficult times” created by COVID-19. As a realist, though, I have to acknowledge that someone somewhere is always going through a difficult time. We will always need the outlet music provides, and we will always need avenues to come together and appreciate beauty, discover talent, build bridges, and celebrate the best in humanity through the arts.
Today this forum continues with the same mission, but a new, slightly modified name: Beautiful Music NOW. I will continue to offer discoveries to you: extraordinary musicians sharing their considerable gifts. I want to meet you where you are NOW, in this moment, and provide music that is a delight, distraction, or a balm — whatever you might need. And I want to draw your attention to the stunning talent you should know about NOW, because it’s just too good to miss, and carries an important message in the moment.
Today’s Beautiful Music features Ukrainian violinist and violist Mela Tenenbaum. You can sample her artistry playing a variety of music ranging from the baroque through romantic eras. You can also read more about her personal journey leaving her home country after the Chernobyl disaster.
