Hippolyte et Aricie is an opera by French baroque composer Jean-Philippe Rameau. Premiered in 1733, it was the 50 year old composer’s first opera, after a lifelong, successful career as a music theory expert and composer of harpsichord music. Today’s Beautiful Music is a CHACONNE from Hippolyte et Aricie played by oboist Debra Nagy, violinists Julie Andrijeski and Evan Few, viola da gamba player Emily Walhout, and harpsichordist Michael Sponseller (harpsichord) from a 2017 performance.
