American operatic tenor Lawrence Brownlee is a Youngstown, Ohio native, and a graduate of Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and Anderson University. Mr. Brownlee conceived of his project RISING, commissioning six of today’s leading African-American composers to set poetry from the Harlem Renaissance to song. The program is being recorded for release on Warner Classics this month in celebration of Black Music Month. You can read more about RISING, and about Black Music Month (aka African American Music Appreciation Month) using the links below. And today’s Beautiful Music features the spine-tingling artistry of Lawrence Brownlee singing BRING HIM HOME from Les Miserables.
