Thomas Wiggins (who was also called “Blind Tom”) was a musician who lived from 1849-1908. He was the son of enslaved parents, and it was evident early on that he was a child prodigy at the piano. Mr. Wiggins toured the US as an acclaimed virtuoso performing the classical keyboard repertory, and he also composed music. Today’s Beautiful Music is one of his 100 compositions — The Sewing Song — performed by pianist Arsentiy Kharitonov. Sadly, no known recordings exist of Thomas Wiggins playing piano.
