Today’s Beautiful Music comes with a lovely dance, too. Passacaille is a musical form. (That’s the French version of the word; In Spanish it’s pasacalle; in Italian it’s passacaglia.) The derivation is the Spanish word pasar (meaning “to walk”) and calle (street). The stately 17th century dance is performed to a musical form of variations over a repeated bass line.
