Soprano Nicole Cabell’s velvety tone and brilliant range and facility are such a delight. The California native was not from a musical family, and only started singing in her mid-teens. She quickly discovered her musical gifts, and enrolled in the Eastman School of Music. You can read her bio, linked below, and listen to Nicole Cabell singing Beautiful Music from George Frideric Handel’s opera ALCINA — the aria AH, MIO COR. There’s also a lovely trailer showing Ms. Cabell receiving the BBC Cardiff Singer of the Year 2005 award, with beautiful performing excerpts additional talks about her critically lauded debut recital disc with Sir Andrew Davis. You can also listen to her discuss and sing music by another trailblazing woman: the influential teacher and composer Nadia Boulanger.
