American violin virtuoso Melissa White made a splash in 2001 on the radio program FROM THE TOP as a 16 year old who had recently won First Prize in the Sphinx Competition. In the 20 years since, she has attended Curtis Institute and New England Conservatory, and has cultivated her career as a soloist and chamber musician. Melissa White has performed with Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Pops, Louisville Orchestra, among the many US ensembles. She has also performed a soloist with Poland’s Fillharmonia Dolnoslaska; with the Colombian Youth Orchestra in a tour of that country; and as a recitalist in Baku, Azerbaijian. She also played a violin solo on the soundtrack to Jordan Peele’s 2019 psychological thriller Us. The Michigan-born violinist made a virtual visit to her home state on Classical Interlochen Public Radio (IPR) on their NOTES FROM HOME series. Today’s Beautiful Music features that Zoom performance from her home in Chicago playing the first movement of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Violin Sonata #1 BWV 1001.
