Pull up a chair, and pour a cuppa joe for today’s installment of Beautiful Music in Difficult Times. It’s all too easy to put Bach on a pedestal and think of him only as the serious musician he was. But he was also fun and connected to the world. He composed more than 200 Cantatas, and the overwhelming majority of them had a religious theme. But Bach also composed secular Cantatas, such as his Coffee Cantata. Yup — Coffee Cantata! It’s a humorous disagreement between a father and daughter over her coffee-drinking. It’s fun and funny and it’s wonderful because, after all, it’s BACH!
