Today I’m sharing beautiful music by a composer whose name may be new to you: Nicolas de Grigny. He was a French organist and composer who lived from 1672 – 1703, and very little music is left from his short life. This is one of his compositions — VENI CREATOR — played by Russian organist Katja Sager.
What a wonderful piece.
I am so glad you enjoyed it!
A real appreciation of the organ didn’t come until I was teaching German at UC years ago. One of my students was a doctoral candidate in organ at CCM, we became friends and because I read music he asked me if I’d like to turn pages for him while he practiced sometimes. Began with the Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor – perhaps you can imagine the shivers THAT piece gives one who’s seated AT the organ for the first time ever.
What a great story! It definitely is a different experience to be in the same room as a pipe organ… You feel the vibration of the air. What a wonderful experience.
