Jeanne Lamon was a trailblazer. She was a gifted violinist and expert in baroque performance practice, and was on the leading edge of the mid-20th century revival of interest in baroque music. Ms. Lamon was the longtime (33 years!) leader of the Canadian period instrument group Tafelmusik, and its Music Director Emerita since her 2014 retirement. Under her leadership, Tafelmusik became the internationally admired ensemble it is today. Sadly, Jeanne Lamon died yesterday (June 20, 2021) at age 71. Today’s Beautiful Music is Jeanne Lamon’s own transcription for two violins and cello of Johann Sebastian Bach’s CHACONNE. The performers are Jeanne Lamon herself, violinist Chloe Kim, and cellist Christina Mahler, who was Ms. Lamon’s longtime partner. You can read Jeanne Lamon’s obituary below, and enjoy an interview with her from 2014, the year of her retirement from Tafelmusik.
