The terrific flutist Demarre McGill provides today’s Beautiful Music. He plays American composer William Grant Still’s SONGS FOR FLUTE AND PIANO with Orion Weiss. Mr. McGill is a Chicago native who began studying the flute at age 7, and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from The Curtis Institute of Music and a Master’s degree at The Juilliard School.
He is currently Principal Flute of the Seattle Symphony, and previously served as principal flute of the Dallas Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Florida Orchestra, and Santa Fe Opera Orchestra. He also served as acting principal flute of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Demarre McGill is also passionate about playing chamber music, including performances with his equally talented and accomplished brother, clarinetist Anthony McGill. [note: tomorrow’s Beautiful Music will feature Anthony McGill!] In addition to listening to this moving performance, you can read more about Demarre McGill, and about the composer William Grant Still using the links below.
