Awadagin Pratt has been playing piano since he was 6 years old. He excelled in music as well as tennis, but eventually chose to attend Peabody Conservatory of Music, where where he became the first student in the school’s history to receive diplomas in three performance areas – piano, violin and conducting. In 1992 he won the Naumburg International Piano competition, one of numerous awards, and he is currently an Assistant Professor of Piano at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Today’s Beautiful Music features Awadagin Pratt playing the Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue by Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as a recital he gave in 1994 in Virginia playing music by Bach, Beethoven, and Schumann.
