Beautiful Music in Difficult Times February 21

Flutist Demarre McGill is Principal Flutist of the Seattle Symphony, and the brother of clarinetist Anthony McGill, who was featured on yesterday’s Beautiful Music post on this blog. Demarre McGill’s many awards include an Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Sphinx Medal of Excellence. He offers Beautiful Music today by Johann Sebastian Bach — a transcription for 2 flutes and piano of the Double Violin Concerto (the second movement — my personal favorite!) with flutist Jasmine Choi and pianist Colette Valentine, and a flute duet with Kaori Fuji playing Felix Mendelssohn’s SCHERZO from A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM.  There’s also an inspiring lesson with Demarre McGill — a Master Class — on being a musician and cultivating your skills, called THE HABIT OF PLAYING BEAUTIFULLY. And you can watch a panel discussion with Demarre McGill and Anthony McGill about Inclusive and Equitable Orchestras.
