One of the advantages of my job is that I get to meet talented, creative and inspiring people, such as Patricia Ann Neely. She plays viola da gamba and vielle (among other instruments) and has performed with a wide range of top ensembles, including The Folger Consort, Smithsonian Chamber Players, New York Collegium, the Washington Bach Consort, Glimmerglass Opera, New York City Opera, Boston Camerata, Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, The Newberry Consort, and many others. She’s a founding member of the viol consort Parthenia, and a co-founder of Abendmusik, NY’s Early Music String Band (exploring the rarely-performed repertoire composed during the 17th century. I had the honor of interviewing Pat Neely about her career, including her passion for increasing diversity in the field of early music. These are some of Patricia Ann Neely’s performances of Beautiful Music, including a COVID-era duet with herself playing music by Johannes Schenck, and a collaboration with harpsichordist Joyce Chen. There is also a link to Patricia Ann Neely’s excellent lecture, THE FAMILY OF MAN – DIVERSITY IN THE RENAISSANCE ARTS.
