Today I’m offering you Beautiful Music played on the viola da gamba by Ibrahim Aziz. First, with harpsichordist Masumi Yamamoto, he plays the “Kassel Sonata’ #55 in D major, attributed to George Frideric Handel, but thought to possibly be by Johann Jakob Kress. Kress was born in 1685 – the same year as Handel — but only lived until 1728.
The second selection I’m sharing is Ibrahim Aziz playing a contemporary composition by Carlos Martinez Gil for solo viola a gamba. It’s an Elegy to the memory of the victims of Covid 19 however if you didn’t know that you could easily imagine it being music composed during the baroque era.
