Looking around for outstanding Beautiful Music to share with you, double bass player Joseph Conyers knocked my socks off! Since 2010, Mr. Conyers has been Assistant Principal Bassist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and before that held the Principal Bass position with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Grand Rapids Symphony. He teaches at the Juilliard School, and is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music. Joseph Conyers is a marvelous bass player AND piano player AND teacher/coach! First, watch him play Charles Gounod’s AVE MARIA based on Johann Sebastian Bach’s Prelude #1 in C from the Well-Tempered Clavier. (Close your eyes and you’ll think he’s playing a cello.) Then watch him coaching a talented young musician – Daniel from Xalapa, Mexico — playing an excerpt from Bach’s Suite in b minor. It’s a peek into what it’s like in a high level music lesson/master class.
