I recently had the opportunity to interview countertenor Randall Scotting. He has a recent recording, THE CROWN, of arias written for the famous 17th century castrato singer Senesino. This is Randall Scotting singing a lovely aria that might be familiar: OMBRA MAI FU (aka George Frideric Handel’s LARGO).

Today’s Beautiful Music is by Ignacio de Jerusalem — a church musician born in Lecce, Italy who eventually went to “New Spain” (aka Mexico) where he became chapel master at the cathedral in Puebla and eventually died in Mexico City. This is his 1760 Cantata AL COMBATE.

George Frideric Handel was a virtuoso keyboard player, and he wrote some exciting music for organ and harpsichord. Handel was also TERRIFIC at composing grand and glorious choral music.
