February is African American History Month in the United States. It’s an opportunity to give special recognition to the contributions of black artists, teachers, scientists, writers … heroes and innovators in all fields. Sunday Baroque will highlight and celebrate the work of some outstanding musicians.
Mexico celebrates its annual Independence Day on September 16, and in the U.S., the observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month extends from September 15-October 15. Sunday Baroque will get into the spirit with some Mexican baroque music by Manuel Zumaya, who was born in Mexico City in the 1670s and worked as chapel master at the cathedral there.
