Heinrich Biber composed 15 Sonatas on the Mysteries of the Rosary. They are all-instrumental settings of Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious mysteries based on rosary prayers. They debuted at the Salzburg Cathedral, and the occasion was such a big deal that Biber’s musical score was adorned with engravings of the 15 Rosary Mysteries. Spend a few peaceful moments listening to one of Heinrich Biber’s five glorious mystery sonatas on Sunday Baroque this weekend.

Mexico celebrates Independence Day on September 16 every year, and in 1988 President Ronald Reagan established an annual 30 day celebration of Hispanic Heritage in the United States from September 15-October 15. Sunday Baroque will highlight some musicians who have contributed to that rich cultural heritage.
