German organist and composer Johann Sebastian Bach was born in March of 1685, and every year Sunday Baroque throws a little birthday celebration for the composer. This year, for the first time, it’s a two-part celebration. This weekend is the first installment of the Bach Birthday Bash, and it includes performances by young musicians who love Bach, such as recorder player Lucie Horsch, flutist Brandon Patrick George, and the Catalyst Quartet. It’s the Bach Birthday Bash on Sunday Baroque this weekend.

One of the elite groups was called Les Vingt-quatre Violons du Roi – the King’s 24 Violins, and composers Jacques Aubert, Jean-Fery Rebel and Jean-Baptiste Lully were all members of the group. Sunday Baroque will feature some of their music.

In the baroque era, there was George Frideric Handel and his fan and patron Charles Jennens, who partnered with him on MESSIAH, SAUL and other oratorios. And some of Jean Baptiste Lully’s most memorable works were his partnerships with the writer Moliere. We’ll feature some of these early musical collaborators.
